Time to put our feet up! With Valentine's Day and International Women's Day behind us, we can go on holiday. While prices were not great, trade volume made up for much of that.
Three weeks before Valentine's Day, the outlook was not so rosy. Although the weather had turned bright and sunny after a wet November and December – as is usual during Kenyan summer (i.e., January, February and March) – it did not look like Kenya would be generating a lot of trade, the overall trend being that most crops would be late.
The airfreighters were getting nervous as the first freight crates were being cancelled just to be on the safe side. But with a lot of moisture still in the air and a lot of sunlight, things went a bit faster than expected: record quantities of flowers from Kenya entered the market for Valentine's Day. Whereas this used to cause a lot of logistical problems in previous years, things were not that bad this year.
