Belgian grower Dieter Vantyghem is replacing chemical fertilisers with slurry. "We have been applying the animal manure since last year, and the results are promising."
What are you working on? “We are potting veronicas, of which we have five varieties. The pots will be placed in a new container field, which we created because the previous field was damaged by a storm.”
What other products do you grow? “We have three major product groups that succeed each other in time, so that we can spread the work as much as possible and make maximum use of our Polish seasonal workers. Before the veronicas, we were busy growing the geraniums. They are beginning to bud, and the geranium selling season starts in a fortnight. After the veronicas, it's time for the chrysanthemums. We have several niche varieties.”
