“An omelette and a coffee, please?” “No sir, we’re sorry, load shedding just started. We hope to be able to serve breakfast again in 2 hours…”.
So, we opted for an orange juice and a muffin instead. Which we enjoyed very much as well! After all, our view had the sun coming up over a rocky ocean front, filled with penguins! We had come to the end of our vacation at Boulders Beach near Capetown and after 3 weeks we had become accustomed to the government-planned power outages.
Not yet when we had just landed in Johannesburg and drove our right-hand-drive rental car to our first intersection, 4 rows wide with traffic lights showing none of the 3 possible colours, due to a lack of electricity! We just did as the locals do and managed to get to the other side safely. As tourists, those minor details just added to the charm of our vacation; we fell in love with South Africa. What a beautiful country!
