Ecuador is particularly affected by the war in Ukraine as it usually ships a lot of flowers to Russia. Especially large roses are popular with the Russians. Although it is logistically and financially still possible to supply Russia, Ecuador is also looking to enter other markets. Faltering production combined with huge demand make it hard to fully gauge the damage that the war has done.

What can and will they do in the long term? While Ecuadorian growers can still do business with their clients in Russia, purchasing power in the country is plummeting. Transport to this destination also remains possible but has become much more costly due to the war.
