On Cooperative Day on 7 December, Royal FloraHolland's management announced that the auction will suffer a much bigger loss this year than in 2022. “We are looking at areas in which to grow, to shrink and to automate. Our plan is to achieve a significantly more effective organisation with lower costs over the next three years,” explains CEO Steven van Schilfgaarde.
How big the loss is, the auction management will not and cannot say. Last year, RFH lost EUR 4 million. The reasons for RFH's 2023 loss include increases in energy, labour and interest costs. In addition, supplier costs rose, and supply fell. For next year, RFH is budgetting a small plus, partly attributable to an increase in grower and buyer fees and cost savings.
