OK, so that was Valentine's Day. Glad it’s over for another year. As always, it was quite a job, but all in all, we look back on it favorably: sales were similar to last year's, the logistics were pretty smooth, and the quality was even better than in 2024, give or take a few exceptions.
With Women's Day also almost behind us, we have earned a few days off! How convenient that Carnival is due in early March, and Carnival Monday and Tuesday are official holidays in Ecuador! Schools in the Andes have the whole week off, while schools on the coast are now celebrating their long summer holidays. So, all in all, these are the ideal conditions for a massive exodus. The top attractions are the beaches, followed by Baños, a laid-back village in the central Andes. It is popular for its many waterfalls and outdoor activities.
While some towns do hold Carnival parades, the most typical national tradition is throwing water at each other or spraying one another with foam. This happens at schools, among friends, but certainly also at flower farms. There is no escaping it, so make sure always to carry a dry set of clothes. And motorists: keep your windows closed! After all, there is always the risk of a prankster hiding beside the road with a few buckets of water. Splash!
