Some words are impossible to translate from one language to another. You can only describe them with multiple words or in a full sentence. “Gezellig” is one of those words in the Dutch language and it means something like “pleasant togetherness in a friendly atmosphere”.
In the second week of October, I attended the Canadian Greenhouse Conference in Niagara Falls and I always experience that 2-day tradeshow as “gezellig”! With about 150 local and international exhibitors and an extensive educational program, it has become a significant event, offering everything you need as a greenhouse operator.
It is great to connect with the many vendors to the industry in one place. But also with the many local greenhouse colleagues you walk into and catch up with. Either in the isles or at the Happy Hour at the end of the first day. It is a tradeshow that is clearly “popular” for exhibitors, because the floor is sold out and there is a waiting list for new booths. It is not only a fun tradeshow, but affordable and effective as well. And the North American markets and economies still offer opportunities in horticulture. So it makes sense that companies want to promote themselves here.
