The countdown has started, the final sprint is underway. With slightly less than three months to go, 2025 is getting awfully close! And it’s going to be a memorable year for our flower sector. After all, years ago, over one hundred FSI members expressed the joint ambition to bring at least 90% sustainable, responsibly produced plants and flowers to market by 2025.
It is not just the chain and consumers who are beginning to ask for this. European regulations and legislation will be making this compulsory. As of 2026, for example, companies with more than 250 employees and EUR 50 million in turnover – which includes FM Group – must comply with the new CSRD. CSRD stands for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. Simply put, this means that companies must soon submit sustainability reports alongside their annual reports. The FSI 2025 measures play a crucial role in this.
So, how does one establish whether a flower was sustainably grown? To this end, FSI 2025 created a ‘basket of standards’ It consists of 19 different certifications divided across three categories: GAP, Environmental and Social. Production sites in Colombia and Ecuador must meet all three criteria to earn the ‘sustainable’ label.
