This fall, Rainbow Greenhouses celebrated its 40th anniversary, and in many ways, working at Rainbow feels like working at a 40 year-old start-up.
With more than 115 acres of greenhouse the company has strong roots, yet every day carries the energy and the excitement of a new venture. We’re growing fast, have a high appetite for commerce and combine that with a bold change-agenda. But with that excitement comes a new reality: the stakes are higher than ever. For a large company with few but deep relations with retail partners, mistakes at this scale are unaffordable. The leadership team, including the next generation, is carrying more risk on our shoulders.
Coming from the Netherlands, I’m used to seeing scale and structure as the foundation for steady paced growth. Established companies often have finely tuned systems that support steady performance. In Western Canada, we embrace a different kind of strength: agility. Decisions are made quickly and informally, ideas move fast, and change feels possible every day. That agility is a powerful asset of our success.
