Royal FloraHolland is changing into a platform with a digital marketplace Floriday, and physical hubs. As a result, the IT landscape is undergoing a major overhaul which includes the IT for auctions, logistics and financial services. Sometimes things go wrong, however, causing outages. As CIO André van der Linden said, "We are doing everything we can to avoid system downtime, but there is no such thing as zero risk."
Van der Linden compares the changes in RFH's IT landscape to those made to a house he bought in 2007. Over the years, he added the garage space to his house, created an extra floor, had a dormer built and a new kitchen installed. Likewise, "Royal FloraHolland's IT landscape has evolved over the years. It started with the clock, and all sorts of things have been added. This makes innovation quite difficult. It is the reason RFH is disentangling its IT landscape, separating the auction system, the logistics system and the financial system."
