Royal FloraHolland has found that the present form of centralised auctioning of plants and certain flowers has too many negative side effects. It has concluded that further roll-out in its current form will not achieve the best result for buyers and growers of flowers. This means that RFH will be going back to the drawing board. Centralised auctioning will remain for those products already auctioned in this way.
Royal FloraHolland (RFH) has been working on central auctioning for a long time, starting with the nationwide auctioning of cut anthuriums at the Aalsmeer and Naaldwijk sites. Today, all plants and several cut flowers are being bundled across its three export hubs: Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk and Rijnsburg.
RFH earlier suspended the further rollout of central flower auctioning, after finding that order picking and central auctioning did not go well together. It takes longer for transactions to be released, making the order picking process less efficient. Ultimate delivery times to customers cannot always be guaranteed. The introduction of multi-transaction auctioning has only partially managed to address this problem.
