To the Netherlands, the UK is an important export country for plants and flowers. New rules do not make exporting to the UK any easier, however, a situation which is aggravated by quite a few economic problems in the UK. Ministerial Agricultural Counsellor Philip de Jong is closely involved in dealing with all the export difficulties.
Philip de Jong is Agricultural Counsellor for the UK and Ireland on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature. With its certification requirements and border inspections, the former has not made things any easier for exporters of plants and flowers. And, as of 31 January 2025, things may get even worse as the British start inspecting fruits and vegetables.
Perhaps a new government will bring relief for the export sector. The UK elections resulted in an overwhelming win for Labour. The Labour party is faced with a country in economically heavy weather, says Philip de Jong from his office at the Embassy in London.
