On 1 October this year, Onings Holland Flowerbulbs from Poeldijk will be taking over various business units of Van Zanten Flowerbulbs in Hillegom, including its flower bulb nursery in New Zealand, its sales office in Australia and the trading activities for Dutch lily bulbs, which will be integrated as of the 2025 harvest season.
Onings and Van Zanten Flowerbulbs have both been major players in the lily world for a long time, with long histories: Onings is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, while Van Zanten Flowerbulbs was founded in 1862 by Gerrit Veldhuyzen van Zanten.
On 27 August, both companies announced that Onings will be taking over most of the lily cultivation and trade activities. “A world-class development in the lily world, driven by a shared vision of the third and fourth generations in the Onings family business. This strategic step will ensure an even better supply, to customers all over the world, of a wide and high-quality range, grown in both hemispheres, with a focus on double Orientals and OT hybrids,” says Sjoerd Onings, CEO of Onings Holland Flowerbulbs. Both parties are pleased with the acquisition.
