After five years of cultivation on 2ha, Ruskers Flora feel confident about expanding in Zimbabwe. Nyasha Mtisi: 'Our aim is to expand to 20ha, growing different types of proteas.'
What kind of company is Ruskers Flora?
‘The company is run by my parents, who lived in the United Kingdom for twenty years. They left Zimbabwe in 1999 because the political and economic situation there was not good. In England, they were a lawyer and an accountant, but six years ago they decided to return to their native country. They wanted to get into agriculture, in which they had always been interested. They started growing potatoes, among other things, but that didn't go well, causing them to lose money. A friend then advised them to grow protea, which they have been doing since 2019. At first, it was a process of trial and error, but they have now got the hang of it.’
